Pointing to a rock, Clarke Berry (a Jungian analyst) made this statement to Francis Weller, author of In the Absence of the Ordinary. “This is my clock. I operate. At geological speed. And if you are going to work with the soul, you need to learn this rhythm because this is how the soul moves.”
He goes on to explain that what matters most to our souls is found in places of slowness, the terrain of geological speed. Weller shares, that for the sake of our souls and the soul of the world, slow down and come into the rich loam of the waiting world.
We need to take up an apprenticeship with slowness and remember this ancient mode of being. No wonder the almost endless ache of feeling as if something is missing, trying to nourish ourselves on a zero calorie diet, unable to satiate our hungry ghosts. Soul is fed by its fundamental need for encounters with beauty.
“Let the beauty we love be what we do.” ~ Rumi
Knitting a bone takes time. Mending the soul takes even longer.
What if we could enfold ourselves in a luminous quilt stitched with golden threads? Reminding us of these patchwork pieces of wisdom? Our soul food.
Beauty.
Time.
Slow.
Rest.
Restore.
Renew.
Soul is subtle so we need to move at a rhythm slow enough to become attuned to her energizing mystery, Weller writes.
In the upcoming days/weeks, which can often become frantic with activity, busyness, to do lists; perhaps there exists another way? What if it is to remind ourselves to attend to, slow down to geological time, so that we can become attentive to the quiet whispers of our souls beckoning us inward.

Dear Joanie, thank you for this well-timed post with such beautifully chosen quotes. Just what I needed today (and every day)
Thanks for all you do.
Oh the timing on this and how I desperately needed this balm. I will make a vow to myself to practice this...amongst all the frenetic energy and tasks to be done, my soul knows on a very deep level that in the days ahead there is SO much beauty, love and joy to behold. May I be still....and know...long enough not to miss it. I love you SO much my dearest Joanie. Wishing you deep peace and tender joy in the coming weeks. All my love always! Niki 🐢🙏🪶♥️
Friends, thank you for leaving your comments in these sections. The bottom section is an older version of Wix, that they have not deleted yet, but the comments might get 'lost.'
So many rich quotes and Joanie thoughts here. I will immediately put on the brakes and find places of slowness. Thank you Joanie, dear friend. Be well enjoying your family during your time of retreat.
