Trust Faster~ Guest Writer Kelly McDermott-Burns

My heart and mind are with Hawai'i right now and so I am recycling this blog that came from my time there.

This is a perspective I have been coming back to as I enter week six of my healing process.

“Trust Faster.”

This little phrase caught my eye while I was standing in the greenhouse shop at the Sacred Garden on Maui. It was etched on a small branch—simple and elegant. I took it in, then continued shopping.

But 'Trust Faster' had landed in my heart. Since then, the words keep coming back to me, again and again.

Eve, the owner, had been telling us about her experience creating that magical place. She spoke openly about the struggle—the moments when trust wavered, when the belief that it would all come together felt more like a faraway dream than a grounded truth.

That wavering? Very familiar territory.

I’ve been there more times than I can count—those moments when I feel rock-solid in my intention, aligned, clear, even excited… only to find myself a day later in a tangle of doubts.

My mind loves a detour. It swoops in with questions, distractions, worst-case scenarios. Suddenly the clarity is gone and I’m left wondering, Did I misread something? Am I fooling myself?

Trust evaporates, and with it, my sense of direction.

And yet… the irony is this: every time I do trust—really trust—things line up. My focus sharpens. My actions match my vision. And without fail, something shifts. Magic happens. It’s as if the Universe says, Finally. You get it!

So this phrase, “Trust Faster,” feels like a little spiritual shortcut. A reminder that the detour isn’t always necessary. That I don’t have to wrestle so long with doubt before stepping into alignment.

What if I just trusted sooner? Trusted that the idea was real. That the feeling was true. That the timing is right. That I'm not off track—I’m just in process.

What if trusting faster could be the bridge between the vision and the miracle?

What might shift in your life if you trusted faster—before the doubt had a chance to take the wheel?

This happening landed in my inbox today from my dear friend, Leigh. Little did she know this is a place we visit often, and speak with Eve, the owner. Maui and our sister islands have been hit very hard by Kona storms. Gale force winds, flooding, no power for days on end. A sincere thank you for those who reached our way, it means so much. We are safe, cleaning up, and doing what Kelly suggests, Trusting Faster.

Dear Kelly,

Thank you SO much for this wonderful offering! And dearest Joanie, thank you for offering yet another gem of a soul to the world. I am forever grateful for you and the way in which you use your platform.

My dear friend Jane always used to say to me, when I was drowning in doubt, "Yes Niki, BUT what if it all works out?"

That small shift in my perspective was enough for the light to get back in, to be able to pause and breathe and consider the fact that my friend could very well be right!

Trust Faster

This post landed deep for me. I quickly support, encourage and believe in the things my loved one's plan to do. But when it is me, I overthink and doubt myself. Maybe it is time for me to trust faster in myself! Thank you for this post.

Yes, I can see the sharp focus. Thank you for sharing, Kelly, I'm often looking for a shift.
