Show Me
“One of my favorite spiritual teachers says her only prayer is ‘Show me.’ Show me what to do. Show me what life’s about. Show me.” ~ Martha Beck Show me. It’s in these two small words that the magic of a new year exists for me. It’s the idea that we don’t need to have all the answers yet. We don’t need to have a plan or a goal or a timeline as soon as the clock strikes midnight. We don’t need to know how this year will unfold or who we’ll be at the end. We don’t need to hold

Noticing Glimmers
As we journey towards the solstice, you are invited to explore your relationship to noticing glimmers of emerging light. Glimmers, in contrast to triggers, are cues—internally or externally—that guide one back to feeling joy or safety. The term "glimmer" was popularized by Deb Dana, LCSW. Triggers are cues—accurate or not—that move the body into those fight-or-flight or freeze states. Glimmers are also cues—but they are cues that move the body into a feeling of safety and con

'Let Them'
Mel Robbins, https://www.melrobbins.com/ offers a life hack that she refers to as, ‘Let Them.’ She absolutely stands by expressing its myriad of uses and is noticing changes within herself that feel empowering and freeing. The two words remind me of how we concluded our weekly Al-Anon meetings with the Serenity Prayer. It diffuses the upset, the giving over of our precious time and energy in trying to change another and debunks the illusion of control that we believe we may

Our Needs
Where have we bought into the notion that we’re supposed to have everything figured out? A byproduct of that is that we don’t have needs because if we do we fear appearing “needy?” I was conversing with a friend the other day and she mentioned how a dear friend of hers told her what she needed for her to do. She desired her to check in on her periodically to inquire as to how she’s feeling and doing as she’s in the midst of a challenging time. We both marveled at how immensel

The Tao of Chess and a First Grader
My week fills me with a Tuesday volunteering position in a school library which serves wee ones to the eighth grade. It is where I land to be filled and to drop back into those twenty-five years I spent surrounded by the wisdom of sages in youthful costumes. In the library the children come not only to read, browse, do their homework, yet to play chess as well. We have two boards and on one particular day I had some eager first graders desiring to play. A little first grade
